I’m Japanese and have lived in New Zealand over 15years now. I love all kinds of crafts. I have done sewing, weaving, pottery, woodworking etc. Leather craft is one of my favourite crafts and I have enjoyed creating leather bags over 14years. I have learned leathercraft on my own and am still learning & improving skills every day. I have designed all my bags and they are all handcrafted. I am always seeking a new design.
About ‘ Karamel Leatherwork ’
Since my family and friends have been asking me to share my creativity with more people, I have decided to turn my hobby to a business and established ‘Karamel Leatherwork’ early 2017. ‘Caramel’ is a colour of leather which I used it for my first designed and handcrafted bag. (I named the bag ‘Olivia’. You can buy the pattern of bag from my shop). As my initial is ‘K’, I have created a new word ‘Karamel’ for my company name.
About bags in Karamel Leatherwork
I have designed all my bags. You will find all Karamel Leatherwork bags have the taste of being feminine, elegant, sophisticated and tenderness to the bags. Also, all of my bags have ‘ Woven leather’ into the design which is one of my signatures, and each Karamel bag is handcrafted by hand-stitching and antique sewing machines. I believe the designs of my bags are unique and have strong characteristics.
Leather is carefully selected from New Zealand local leather suppliers, however, please note all hides have natural markings, scars, scratches, and colour variations that occur within each hide. To understand hides are the same as human skins, each person has scars, scratches and colour variation. In other words, each handcrafted bag is ‘One-Off’ bag. You never get an exactly the same leather bag again. And some leather bags change its colour when aging. Hope you enjoy those unique characteristics on your bags.
About Custom-ordering and stocked items
As I explained ‘About leather’, each Karamel Leatherwork bag is a ‘One-off’ bag. Some leathers are constantly supplied but some are not, I cannot guarantee when I can get the same leather next time. Therefore ‘Custom-order’ and waiting lists are not available at Karamel Leatherwork. I understand some shops start creating an item once they receive an order. However, all Karamel Leatherwork bags that I list are in stock and ready to send out.
